Established Mixed Animal Practice:

We serve a diverse patient population, with approximately 80% companion animal patients (including exotics) and 20% large animal patients, primarily horses. Our services include internal medicine, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, dentistry, therapeutic laser, equine sports medicine and lameness, equine surgery and dentistry, as well as livestock and small ruminant services. We have comprehensive diagnostic capabilities including in-house laboratory, companion and large animal digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Collaboration and Training:

  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and other team members to provide comprehensive care.
  • Train and mentor veterinary assistants, sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Maintain open communication with doctors and team members to ensure smooth workflow and patient care.

Client Communication and Support:

  • Make clients feel welcome and comfortable, providing compassionate and empathetic support.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, explaining treatment plans and answering questions.
  • Go above and beyond to assist clients and ensure their satisfaction.

Patient Care and Treatments:

  • Perform patient treatments, including administering medications, injections, and vaccinations.
  • Set up and maintain IV catheters for fluid therapy and medication administration.
  • Provide compassionate care and comfort to hospitalized patients.

Animal Handling and Care:

  • Handle animals with care and compassion, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Have experience and proficiency in handling a variety of small animal species.
  • Experience handling horses, exotics, and livestock preferred but not required.
  • Ability to safely restrain patients.

Laboratory Procedures:

  • Conduct laboratory tests, including phlebotomy, sample collection, and analysis.
  • Prepare samples for testing and accurately record and report results.
  • Maintain knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment.

Anesthesia Management:

  • Assist with anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery for a variety of animal species.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of patients throughout the anesthesia process.
  • Be available for on-call anesthesia duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues and doctors.
  • Punctual, reliable, and willing to go above and beyond to help patients and clients.
  • Compassionate, empathetic, and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Excellent communication and client interaction skills.
  • Strong phlebotomy skills and laboratory knowledge.
  • Proficiency in anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Experience working in a mixed animal practice is desirable.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred.
